Cuban Foreign Minister Rodriguez stated on the 7th that, based on current prices, the long-term US blockade of Cuba has caused a cumulative loss of $178.7 billion to Cuba.
According to a statement released by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs on social media, the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly decided to continue the debate on the necessity of ending the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba. Rodriguez stated in the debate that from March 1, 2025 to February 28, 2026, the losses caused by the US blockade to Cuba reached a record high of $8.083 billion, an increase of 7% compared to the previous year.
After the victory of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the US government adopted a hostile policy towards Cuba. In 1962, the United States imposed an economic, financial, and trade embargo on Cuba. Since 1992, the United Nations General Assembly has annually reviewed a draft resolution proposed by Cuba calling for the lifting of the US blockade, which has received overwhelming support over the years.
