BEIJING, Mar. 25 (China Economic Net) - Ten scholars from Pakistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, South Africa, Benin, Laos, Rwanda, Uganda, Sri Lanka and Indonesia will carry out a one-year research program at China Meteorological Administration (CMA)-affiliated institutions and research institutes, focusing on meteorological observation, forecasting services and climate change.

CMA held a welcome ceremony for the 2026 cohort on March 20, attended by Zhang Zuqiang, Deputy Administrator of CMA.

On the occasion, Zhang Zuqiang welcomed the scholars, noting that the program has helped strengthen cooperation between national meteorological services and CMA. He said that participants will conduct joint research in areas such as numerical forecasting, artificial intelligence and early warning systems, and encouraged exchanges on China’s AI-powered integrated meteorological system to provide early warnings for all, or "MAZU", to deepen practical cooperation and jointly address climate challenges.

The program is jointly established by CMA and the Ministry of Education under the Chinese Government Scholarship - Silk Road Program. Organized by CMA Training Centre (International Cooperation and Training Center) in collaboration with Peking University, the program selects candidates through global recruitment and interviews. This cohort marks the third group of visiting scholars since the program’s launch.
