The phenomenon of 'bear sightings' may surge, and the Japane

 

On April 27th local time, the Japanese Ministry of Environment released its first report specifically focusing on "bears causing human injuries".

 

The report shows that after analyzing the victimization situation from fiscal year 2023 to fiscal year 2025, it was found that among the injuries that occurred in human living areas, the most occurred during "daily life" such as walking or around residential areas.

 

In addition, the report also compiled preventive measures to avoid encountering bears and response methods during encounters based on actual cases. The relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Environment reminded that "in the spring of the second year after the year when bears are abundant, it is often more likely to have a trend of frequent bear sightings", and called on the public to be vigilant.

 

On March 31st, Japanese Environment Minister Hirotaka Ishihara warned that with the end of animal hibernation, there may be a surge in bear sightings in Japan this spring. He mentioned that Japan had a record number of bear attacks on people last year and urged the public to be vigilant. According to data from the Ministry of Environment, from April 1, 2025 to the end of February this year, 13 people have died in bear attacks in the country, more than double the total number for the previous fiscal year.
