Washington, April 30 (Xinhua) -- According to the Wall Street Journal on April 30, the Trump administration is pushing for the formation of a new international alliance to restore smooth shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

 

The report said that the US State Department sent an internal telegram to embassies abroad on the 29th, proposing an initiative called the "Maritime Freedom Architecture" and requesting US diplomats to urge host governments to join this initiative, stating that it would "enhance our collective capabilities".

 

According to the telegram, the "Maritime Freedom Architecture" international alliance will be jointly led by the US State Department and the US Central Command, responsible for sharing intelligence, coordinating diplomatic actions, and implementing sanctions measures. Among them, the US State Department will serve as the command hub for diplomatic actions, while the Central Command will provide real-time maritime situational awareness capabilities for commercial shipping and be responsible for coordinating intelligence sharing among partner countries' militaries.

 

Although the 'Maritime Freedom Architecture' itself is not a military alliance, the above-mentioned telegram still instructed US officials to inquire with foreign counterparts whether they are willing to join the alliance as' diplomatic and/or military partners'. In addition, the alliance will complement other maritime security task forces.

 

The report states that the United States hopes other countries can also participate in current and potential management affairs of the Strait of Hormuz.

 

According to British media reports, US President Trump pressured European countries in March to join the so-called "Hormuz Alliance" to control the Strait of Hormuz, but many European countries refused. Trump subsequently expressed dissatisfaction with European allies on multiple occasions, stating that the United States no longer "needs" help from NATO countries and other nations. He also called NATO leaving the United States a "paper tiger" and threatened to make the United States withdraw from NATO.
