Chinese representative urges restoration of stability in the

China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, spoke at the high-level open debate on the Middle East issue of the Security Council on April 28, urging all parties to strive for the early restoration of stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region.

 

He said that for a period of time, the situation in the Middle East has rapidly escalated, with its impact continuing to spread and seriously impacting regional stability, and affecting the world economy and energy security. The current situation has reached a critical stage of war and transition. China calls on all parties to seize the window of peace, exercise maximum restraint, show maximum sincerity, unwaveringly adhere to the direction of political settlement, maintain the momentum of ceasefire and negotiation, and strive to restore stability in the Middle East and Gulf region as soon as possible.

 

Fu Cong said that the Palestinian issue has always been at the core of the Middle East issue and should not be marginalized under any circumstances. China calls on all parties concerned, especially Israel, to fully comply with the ceasefire agreement and achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in Gaza. Israel should fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law, lift restrictions on humanitarian access, and ensure that humanitarian agencies provide assistance. Israel must immediately cease illegal settlement activities, effectively curb settler violence, and hold all attacks accountable. Currently, there are continuous voices from the Israeli side opposing the "two-state solution" and even threatening to "strangle the idea of Palestinian statehood", which is concerning. The "two-state solution" is the only feasible way to solve the Palestinian issue, and any unilateral action that undermines the foundation of the "two-state solution" must be firmly rejected. Any arrangement or establishment of new mechanisms should adhere to the principle of "Palestinians governing Palestine" and promote rather than undermine the "two-state solution". The international community should increase its support for Palestine and promote the early establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital and full sovereignty.

 

He said that China is willing to continue to work with the international community to promote an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people, implement the "two-state solution", and achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue as soon as possible.
