New York, April 28 (Xinhua) -- The Office of Foreign Assets Control, a subsidiary of the US Treasury Department, released an explanatory document on April 28 stating that the United States prohibits its individuals or entities from paying the Strait of Hormuz security toll to Iran.
The document states that individuals, financial institutions, and foreign entities owned or controlled by the United States are not allowed to directly or indirectly pay the Strait of Hormuz security passage fee to the Iranian government or the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control has stated that non US individuals or entities paying the Strait of Hormuz security toll to Iran would also pose significant sanction risks. Due to the sanctions imposed by the US on the Iranian government and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on nuclear non-proliferation and counter-terrorism, foreign financial institutions and other non-US individuals or entities who engage in certain transactions or activities with sanctioned entities will face the risk of sanctions. Transactions involving certain sectors of the Iranian economy may also expose foreign individuals or entities to the risk of sanctions.
On that day, the Office of Foreign Assets Control also added 17 foreigners and 18 foreign entities to the sanctions list related to Iran.
