The United Nations welcomes the extension of the Lebanon Isr

On April 24th local time, a spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary General issued a statement stating that Secretary General Guterres welcomes the arrangement to extend the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon by three weeks. On April 16th, US President Trump announced the start of a 10 day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel. On April 23rd, Trump announced that his ceasefire agreement would be extended for three weeks.

 

The statement stated that Guterres reiterated the United Nations' support for all efforts to end hostilities and alleviate the suffering of people on both sides of the Blue Line.

 

The statement urges all relevant parties to fully comply with the ceasefire arrangements, cease further attacks, and always fulfill their obligations under international law, especially international humanitarian law.

 

Guterres once again calls on non-state actors in Lebanon to comply with the relevant decisions of the Lebanese government, promote the coverage of state power throughout the country, and achieve unified control of weapons by the state. At the same time, Guterres called on Israel to completely withdraw from the area north of the Blue Line and fully respect Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

 

The statement stated that the United Nations will continue to support all parties in consolidating the ceasefire through diplomatic channels and promoting the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.

 

Guterres expressed the hope that the extension of this ceasefire will create conditions for lasting and comprehensive peace in the region. (CCTV reporter Xu Tao)
