Tehran/Washington, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Alaghi arrived in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, on April 24 to begin his visit to Pakistan, Oman, and Russia. On the same day, the White House confirmed that President Trump's envoy Witkov and son-in-law Kushner will depart for Pakistan on the 25th. But according to Iranian media reports, there is currently no arrangement for Alaghi to hold talks with the US.
According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Bagai, during Alaghi's visit to the three countries mentioned above, in addition to consultations on bilateral affairs coordination and regional situation development, Iran will also exchange views with these countries on the latest progress in ending the US and Israel's aggression against Iran and achieving regional peace and stability.
According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Radio and Television, Alaghi has no schedule for talks with US representatives, but will use Pakistan as an intermediary to convey information to the US, including Iran's concerns about ending the current conflict. A Pakistani source previously told Xinhua News Agency that Alaghi will discuss the prerequisites for the Iran US negotiations with the Pakistani side; If progress is made, it is expected that Iran will further engage in direct negotiations with US representatives.
On the US side, White House Press Secretary Levitt confirmed in a media interview on the 24th that Witkov and Kushner will travel to Pakistan on the morning of the 25th to negotiate with Iran. At the same time, including Vice President Vance, all members of the US negotiators are on standby and will fly to Pakistan if necessary. She also said that in the past two days, the US has seen "some progress" from the Iranian side and hopes to make more progress in this weekend's talks.
Earlier that day, CNN reported that Trump would send Witkov and Kushner to Islamabad for talks with Alaghzi this weekend. Due to the absence of the Speaker of the Iranian Islamic Parliament, Calibaf, Wans has no plans to leave for the time being. However, if progress is made in the talks, Vance will travel to Islamabad at any time. The first round of the Iran US talks held in Islamabad from the 11th to the 12th of this month were led by Kalibaf and Vance respectively.
On the 24th, the media office of the Islamic Parliament of Iran also issued a statement denying that Khaliyev had resigned from his position as the head of the Iranian delegation to the US Iran talks. Previously, according to Iranian media reports, US officials and media found that the Iranian negotiating team had shown a resolute resistance to various unreasonable demands from the United States, and attempted to create a false impression of "internal differences" between the Iranian government, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and Calibaf.
